Organ Donation Links

Living Kidney Donor Network founded by the wonderful Harvey Mysel has lots of great advice about how to seek a living donor.

David Hookes Foundation encourages donation in Australia.

Share the Beat was first conceptualized by the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness (JRI) in 2003.  Share the Beat uses the power of music and story telling to raise awareness and funds for the benefit of the transplant community.  The JRI is a non-profit organization formed in 1995 by James Redford two years after his liver transplant in 1993. The JRI’s goal is to educate the public and to raise awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation through film, educational outreach and the web.

Presumed Consent Foundation  writes that the problem with organ donation is that families don’t know or override the wishes of their loved ones, and despite regulations that require hospitals to report all deaths to an OPO, as many as 15% are never referred.

SODA – check out the story about David Landsberg, who has received two kidneys, and who is riding 50 miles in each of 50 states in 50 days.  GO DAVID!

Via Linked In, I just became aware of Save Live Now New York.  I am very impressed that private individuals formed a foundation to increase the supply of organs for transplant.  They are focused on presumed consent, financial & tax incentives and affecting public policy.
